Is it time to slip behind the wheel of a new Nissan? This is a very exciting time and we couldn’t be happier to help you dive into your search, but before you do that it might be helpful to take a peek at some of our tips below. Below we have a couple of helpful tips you should keep in your back pocket if you’ll be searching for a new vehicle anytime soon! Before you schedule a test drive with a potential vehicle there is a lot you should think about. However, if you’re thinking “wait, what should I be considering?” Don’t stress it, we’ve got all you need below! Be sure to browse our available inventory and schedule a test drive today, or stop by the dealership and a member of our team will assist you with all your Nissan needs!
Bring proof of insurance and your license: This might seem obvious but you generally need proof of license and insurance before you’re allowed to take the vehicle out on the road. Making sure you have this information makes the process run smoother. Don’t be afraid to ask the dealer for their documentation of ownership and the vehicle papers.
Ask for the records: If you’re considering a used vehicle, it’s important to know everything about the vehicle’s past life. That includes things as small as maintenance reports to bigger things like accident reports, and everything in between. The more you know, the less you’ll be surprised if something isn’t working properly.
Do your research: You might love the way a vehicle looks, but you could hate it the second you get inside and see what it offers. To save yourself a trip, do some research about the vehicle, it’s trim levels, features that it offers, etc. Then when you’re test driving the vehicle you can test these features out, ask about them, or even notice if they aren’t working properly.
Test Everything: Regardless if you buy used or new, there is always a possibility of features not working properly. A test drive is not just about driving the vehicle is about learning the features, deciding if it’s comfortable, making sure everything is working. Assure yourself that the vehicle is worth the investment. If you find issues, be sure to point them out and even ask about a price reduction.
Test drive multiple vehicles: It’s not a bad idea to test drive more than one vehicle, it is a way for you to compare similar vehicles and see what other vehicles offer that yours might not. It also allows you to have options if your dream ride wasn’t what you expected.
So, if you think you’re ready to slip behind the wheel of a brand new Nissan, browse our available inventory and schedule a test drive with us for whenever works best for you! Our sales team is eager to help you find the right ride for you and answer any and all questions you might have!

- Combat boredom by making your own “travel binder.” Fill it with coloring pages, word searches, bingo games, etc, that way the kids will be entertained with a handful of different activities.
- Another way to fight boredom is technology, whether it be a learning toy, an iPad to watch movies or play games, an iPod to listen to music, or even an audible book!
- Bring lots of snacks! Kids get hungry when they get bored which can easily turn into them becoming hangry/cranky. That’s the last thing you want to deal with on a long trip, so pack a good mix of healthy snacks and a couple of their favorite treats for when they get really antsy!
- Another fun activity is having a countdown. Kids love countdowns of any kind, so turn it into a game! Give them a time limit and an activity, remind them of how much time they have left, and watched them focus on finishing in time! This is perfect because it keeps them entertained, it lets them know how much longer till we are there, and it keeps your drive easy!
- For when all else fails to prepare a “Are we there yet bag? When you’re coming up on a near breakdown pull out the bag and tell them if they behave they get to pick a prize out of it! This will easily buy you another half hour and keep your children excited and entertained with what they might get next

The automotive market is currently experiencing shortages, which means pre-owned vehicles are in high demand. Now you might not be in the market for a new vehicle, but since the demand is so high for used cars, you could sell or trade in your current vehicle and get more for your ride today than yesterday! And with road trip season/ summer right around the corner, right now might be the perfect time to upgrade. Not looking to upgrade, just looking to sell? No problem, Loughead Nissan wants your vehicle, even if you don’t buy from us! However, we understand some customers prefer to sell privately, but we wanted to take this week to share some noteworthy pros to selling your vehicle to a dealership like Loughead Nissan. So take a peek below and see if selling your vehicle to Loughead Nissan would benefit you. If so, value your trade-in on our website, or stop into Loughead Nissan to talk with an expert today!
Save Time/ Get Cash Fast
- Selling your car to a dealer is the fastest way to get paid. When you take your pre-owned car to a dealership, you can be in and out of the door within a few hours. However, when you sell privately, it could take weeks or even months.
- Dealerships love buying and adding pre-owned vehicles to their lots because, according to Cox Automotive 2018 Used Car Market Report, about 70% of annual vehicle sales are used cars.
Convenience
- Selling your vehicle privately can be a hassle. It involves advertising the car, detailing it, arranging times for potential buyers to test-drive the car. You must also do all the bargaining, and there’s always the risk that the buyer will back out at any time.
- When you sell to a dealership you’ll drive into your dealership, make the sale, and go home—how much easier can it get?
It’s Simple
- Paperwork is a headache – so leave it to the dealership! Dealers will handle all the paperwork for you and the DMV, so you won’t have to worry about anything other than the price and signing your name. With a third party or private buyer, you’ll have to deal with all title transfers and bill of sales.
Save Money With Potential Tax Breaks
- In most cases*, when you sell your vehicle to the dealership and buy from them at the same time (trade-in), you’ll save money on the sales tax of your new car.
- For instance, if you trade in a car for $5,000 and purchase a new vehicle for $20,000, you may only have to pay taxes on $15,000. Tax credits may also be available for select new vehicles, including hybrids and electric cars.

With spring in full bloom, there really has never been a better time to slip behind the wheel of your Nissan and take on the open road with peace of mind. Whether your trip takes you sea-bound or city-bound, your Nissan will give a whole new meaning to a getaway. While your Nissan will handle the performance, it is your job to make sure that the trip is all planned out. Taking time to prepare for a trip is important for making sure you don’t hit any bumps in the road. So check out our helpful tips below and start planning your next getaway because summer is right around the corner and there is nothing like hitting the road, with the windows down, and confidence in your hands.
- Take some time to decide on a destination. Decide if you want to go far or stay closer to home, do you want to get the mountain tops or city streets? Once you’ve decided on where to go, decide if you’ll be able to make it back in one day and if so what time should you go, arrive, and head back home. If you have to stay the night be sure to start looking for a hotel or place to stay sooner rather than later (prices go up).
- Choose a route. Many people who take road trips like to take the scenic route to their destination. If this is you, check out your GPS and see the different ways you can go to get to your destination. However, if you’re only planning a day trip, it might be better to find the quickest way to get there because of the time restriction.
- Consider the right vehicle. Some vehicles are simply not made for long drives. Depending on the number of people taking the trip with you, the right car might be different. If you’re packing in the whole family it is no surprise that an SUV or crossover is the best way for you to go. You’ll need space to get everyone in and be comfortable. If you’re looking to save a buck on gas opt for a sedan that has great fuel economy! If you’re looking for a new ride before hitting the road, we have a wide variety of vehicles for you to choose from, whether it be an SUV, sedan, or even truck, we can match you with the best option for your needs!
- Get a tune-up. The best thing you can do before hitting the road, regardless of how far you’re traveling, is to get a tune-up. You want to make sure there is no chance of breaking down or mechanical issues. Make sure to get your fluid levels topped off, check for engine problems, and make sure all of your lights are working.
- Bring entertainment. Of course, the drive has to be focused on the road. However, passengers might want some entertainment to make the trip more bearable, especially if you’re taking a big trip. We suggest planning some car games for younger passengers and bring electric entertainment like phones, tablets, headphones, and even magazines, books, journals, etc.

Happy Car Care Month! We hope you have been taking full advantage of the warm weather by hitting the road for some fun in the sun. Speaking of hitting the road, we want to remind you how important it is to service your car before hitting the road. Putting off service is a common thought for many drivers, but it’s not a safe one. Without regular maintenance, it’s a stronger possibility you run into issues on the road ahead. In order to avoid that, regular maintenance is strongly recommended. However, there is DIY maintenance that many Nissan drivers can complete from the comfort of their own home – like topping off their fluid levels! Not sure what fluid levels you should be looking out for? No problem, take a peek below for all you need to know about your Nissan’s fluid levels and get better peace of mind when you hit the road this spring/summer.
Engine Oil:
Your engine needs oil in order to keep moving parts lubricated and working properly. To check your oil, make sure your engine is cool before popping open the hood. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it on a clean rag, reinsert the stick all the way back into the tank. Pull out the stick and see where the oil line hits, there will be a notch that indicates what a safe oil level is. If your oil hits below the notch, check for the specific type of oil and add some yourself.
Transmission Fluid:
Transmission fluid is important because it keeps your transmission lubricated and will save you from expensive repairs. The second dipstick in your engine is for this fluid. Like we did to check the engine’s oil, you will have to remove the dipstick, wipe it off, and reinsert it back into the tank. Pull it back out and examine where the fluid hits on the stick, it’s also a good idea to check the quality of your fluids. Wipe a small amount onto your fingers, if the fluid has a pink or clear look to it, it is fine. If the fluid smells burnt or has particles in it, it is time to swap it out.
Brake Fluid:
From a safety standpoint, this is one of the most important fluids. Brake fluid basically keeps you from running into other cars and objects. You’ll find the brake fluid reservoir toward the back under your hood, be sure to clean off the outside of the compartment so any dirt or dust doesn’t enter the reservoir. Open up the cap and look inside to see where the fluid level is. It should be about a half-inch from the cap. If it is lower than that, check your owner’s manual for what fluid you should use. Also, if the fluid has a dark tint to it, bring your vehicle into our service department for a change of fluids.
Power Steering Fluid:
It’s important to have control over your car and this fluid keeps the right parts lubricated to ensure a safe driving experience. This reservoir is typically found under the hood, on the passenger side with a cap that will likely say “steering” on it. Many cars have a light-colored reservoir so you can see the level of fluid without removing the cap. If your car has a dark reservoir, clean off the cap before opening it to avoid dirt particles from entering the system. Open up the cap and use the dipstick the same way as we did before, if the fluid is low, you can easily add more. Also, if your fluid level is low, check for a leak in the system.
Windshield Washer Fluid:
One important part of driving is being able to see out the windshield, this fluid is key to ensure that happens. Most vehicles have a clear washer fluid tank that will be labeled either “washer” or “windshield.” If you need to add more, simply pop the cap off and pour it into the tank. Do not use soap and water if you are completely empty!! But, the window cleaner that you use at home can work until you fill up with the real stuff.
