At Loughead® Nissan, we care about your safety in any new Nissan vehicle. That’s why we’re excited to tell you all about the Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield® Technology suite of features, which comes standard on many new Nissan vehicles. The technology does for you what you’d expect from a safety-conscious copilot - it monitors, responds, and protects so that you don’t have to worry about the road (too much).

In 2018, you’ll also see the technology formerly known as Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) come standard on eight Nissan models, the Sentra, Altima, LEAF, Rogue Sport, Rogue, Murano, and Pathfinder under the new name Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). Same great tech, shiny new name. AEB uses radar technology to monitor how close your vehicle is to the vehicle in front of  you on the road, giving you audible and visual display warnings to help you reduce your speed if a potential frontal collision is detected. If you don’t do anything, the AEB system can apply the brakes of your vehicle for you, helping you to avoid the collision or reduce the speed of impact if a collision is unavoidable.

Info On The Monitor Technologies of the Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield®:

Have you ever lost track of what you’re supposed to be checking on your vehicle and when, and how long ago you did it last, and a million other things? That’s where these technologies come in. They keep an eye on your vehicle for you, so you don’t have to sweat the small stuff.

Using the radar sensor in the front of your Nissan vehicle, the Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) makes sure that not only the one but two vehicles ahead of you aren’t getting too close or decelerating too quickly - and if they are, your vehicle gives you both an audible warning and visual signal on your instrument panel.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) makes sure that you’re stopping in time to avoid a frontal collision, and if you’re not, it can do the braking work for you.

Your Blind Spot Warning (BSW) will tell you if another vehicle is detected in your blind spot areas on the driver’s or front passenger’s door pillar and the Advanced Drive-Assist® Display. If you engage your turn signal, the indicator will flash with a warning chime to let you know there’s someone in your blind spot.

The Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) means that you’ll never have to crane around your seats to see if there’s someone coming up behind you as you pull out of a parking space. This feature can detect and warn you about vehicles coming up behind you on either side, making it easier than ever to conquer the parking lot.

The RearView Monitor (RM) shows you on your display what’s directly behind your vehicle and can even tell you how far away from another object you are, which can make getting into smaller parking spaces easier than ever before.

You’ve also got the Around View® Monitor (AVM), which uses four cameras to give you a 360º view of what’s around your vehicle. It even tells you about moving objects around your vehicle, so that you know exactly where you are in relation to others on the road.

Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) is cruise control - redefined. Not only will you be able to maintain a constant rate of speed, but you’ll be able to set your speed based on the car in front of you. That means that you’ll stay a preset distance away from the person in front of you, even if their speed is different than yours.

The Driver Attention Alert (DAA) feature monitors your steering patterns and lets you know that you might be due for a break if your steering patterns seem unusual. This is great for those of us who drive a little later in the night than we’d like to, or even for those long road trips.

Moving Object Detection (MOD), another element of the camera monitoring system suite your Nissan vehicle has, lets you know if there’s anything around your vehicle that’s moving through visual and audible alerts.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is the solution to remembering to check your tire pressure monthly. Your Nissan vehicle will monitor on your tire pressure for you, alerting you if your tires are too low - and also letting you know when you’ve filled them up enough when you’re re-inflating them.

Parking Sonars utilize the Front and Rear Sonar System included in your vehicle’s technology suite. Your Nissan will beep when it detects objects near your bumper when you’re backing up, and the beeping gets more frequent the closer you get to those objects.

Info On The Response Technologies of the Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield®:

From the safest of drivers to someone who’s a touch on the speed demon side of the road, Nissan has you covered in any potentially harmful situation you might find yourself in.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) keeps you in your steered path.

The Traction Control System (TCS) helps reduce wheel spin in low-traction situations, such as snow, rain, or ice.

Your Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) helps you maintain steering control around obstacles while you’re braking heavily.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) sends extra force to the rear brakes when you have more weight from passengers or cargo in your vehicle.

Brake Assist (BA) helps apply maximum braking force if it detects hard braking and senses that you’re in an emergency situation.

Adaptive Headlights can tell if it’s dark outside when you’re driving and automatically turn on. This means you won’t have to worry about your headlights when dusk hits or if you get caught in a storm.

The Nissan Advanced Air Bag System means you’ll have dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage air bags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage.

Active Head Restraints help reduce the chances of whiplash injuries to front-seat occupants by moving up and forward during certain rear-end collisions.

The LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) keeps your kids safe by letting you secure LATCH-compatible child restraints without having to use seat belts or a locking clip.
