- Zoom parties are all the rage! Have a virtual custom party with your friends and family
- Having a Halloween movie night with people you live with
- Having a scavenger hunt-style trick-or-treat search with your household members in or around your home rather than going house to house
Moderate Risk Activities

*Advice from the CDC
It’s crazy to think October is about to be OctOVER…with November right around the corner, it’s important to ensure that your Nissan is ready for whatever weather will be coming our way very soon. Yes, this means if you haven’t serviced your vehicle, we highly recommend scheduling an appointment sooner than later to avoid any issues down the road. However, this week’s blog is more focused on getting the proper tool to give you peace of mind on the road. Below you will find 12 must-haves to have in your vehicle before hitting the road this winter. So take a peek and get started on checking off your list today! And if you’re looking to upgrade to a more reliable vehicle, we invite you to browse our available inventory and schedule your test drive today!
Must-Have Winter Accessories:
Ice scraper and snow brush
- With winter right around the corner, it’s crucial to have a sturdy ice scraper and snow brush in your vehicle.
- Whether you’re leaving work, the mall, the grocery store, etc, snow can obstruct your view, and just using your wipers to clear your view can be dangerous for other drivers when the snow flies off at them.
Small/Collapsible shovel
- Keeping a small or collapsible shovel in your truck can be a lifesaver if you find your vehicle stuck in the snow or if you have to clear a path to drive
Gloves, hats, scarves, etc.
- You have the snow brush and shovel, but now you need to actually use them.
- Having extra gloves will be a lifesaver when you have to brush off your vehicle, pump gas, or even change a tire!
Blanket
- Doesn’t everybody have extra blankets lying around at home? Just me? Well, if you have an extra blanket, throw it in your trunk in case you find yourself in an accident having to stand outside, or experience a breakdown in colder temperatures.
Emergency flares or reflectors
- Finding yourself stuck in the snow? Ensure other vehicles can see you with emergency flares or reflectors
Rock salt
- Stuck in the snow? Did ice form around your tires? Gain traction with rock salt, sand, or kitty litter!
- Spread the material near your tires and in your car’s path to get out of a slippery situation.
First aid kit
- This is an all-year-round necessity, but it’s always good to replenish what you need in your first aid kit
- Whether your passenger has a small cut or you’re in an accident and need to be bandaged up, a first aid kit is crucial to this list
Extra windshield washer fluid
- Make sure your windshield washer fluid has antifreeze components to prevent it from freezing. Clearing your windshield with fluid will improve visibility in a winter storm.
Flashlight
- We all know it gets dark very early during the winter months. Having a flashlight in your trunk is always a good idea.
- Whether you need it for maintenance purposes or even to feel safer when walking to and from your vehicle.
Jumper cables
- Cold weather can affect a car’s battery. You can’t start your car if the battery’s dead, which means you won’t be able to use the car’s heater for warmth. Waiting for a jump start in the cold is not fun. You won’t have to wait as long if you have jumper cables with you.
Cell phone charger
- It’s always important to keep your phone charged before hitting the road but with maps, music, and more, your battery can die quickly
- Keep your phone charged up in case you need to make a call for assistance or need your maps for directions
Water and non-perishable snacks
- Breakdowns are never fun and sometimes happen in the worst place. This means if you find yourself stranded, waiting for a tow truck and it might be a while before you get help, having a snack to hold you over is always helpful

Fall Cleaning Tips For Your Nissan | Swarthmore, PA
Fall is in fall swing and before we know it the temperatures outside will be dropping low, and your Nissan is going to need some maintenance before that happens! As always, if you need help or don’t have time to complete your fall maintenance, our certified service professionals can help get your Nissan in tip-top shape in time for the fall season. All you have to do is schedule your service appointment and leave the rest to us! However, if you love getting your hands dirty with some DIY work, then this week’s blog is for you! Below you will find helpful tips and step-by-step instructions for cleaning your Nissan for the fall/winter season! The weather is so unpredictable so we suggest getting started on your maintenance sooner than later! So don’t wait any longer, kickstart your maintenance today!
Car Battery:
- Pop open your hood and brush away the dust. Fall is a great time to inspect your car battery to ensure there are no issues down the road when the colder weather creeps in!
- Make sure your engine cables and terminals are in good shape and retighten if necessary for good contact.
- Make sure there’s no corrosion or dirt build-up. If this is the case, this would be a good time to disconnect and clean them up.
- If your vehicle is newer and you have a maintenance-free battery with no removable caps, there’s not much for you to do besides peeking around the remainder of your hood to ensure there are no leaks, breaks, or issues.
Headlights:
- Many new vehicles have LED headlights that you can’t just pop out and clean, so you might need scheduled maintenance with our team if this is your situation.
- If you still have non-LED lighting, it’s important to clean/replace your headlights to avoid haziness.
- Clouded headlights can be a safety hazard, compromising night vision, and reducing the effectiveness of your headlights. This is especially dangerous in winter, where conditions are less than favorable and the darkness is more consistent.
- You can purchase a headlight cleaning kit, or use household items such as a toothbrush, baking soda, and owner’s manual approved products.
Tires:
- Tire maintenance is always a must, not just during winter months. However, your tires play a crucial role in your vehicle’s winter performance.
- The first thing you should do is to check your tire tread. When you tread is 2/32″ your tires are considered bald and you will need to replace your tires immediately. If your tire tread is above this you’re okay, but should consider replacing soon if it’s closer to balding.
- Most vehicles are purchased with all-season tires, which provide good performance all-year-round. However, if you live in a very snowy area, we highly suggest purchasing snow tires.
- Once your tires are on and in good condition, we suggest scrubbing away any dirt, grime, or buildup.
Wash & Wax:
- Chances are your vehicle needs a good washing after all your summer travel. Between dirt, dead bugs, and even beach sand, your exterior probably isn’t shining like it used to.
- Give your vehicle a good cleaning, this means the top, sides, underneath, and even the tires.
- Once you’ve washed your car, it’s a good idea to wax your vehicle’s exterior. Getting a car wax is a great way to keep your car’s finish looking new.
- Waxing can be tricky, so be sure to check your owner’s manual for safe products from your vehicle or leave it to the pros in our service department!
Wipers:
- Windshield wipers maintenance is regularly overlooked. However, your wipers are extremely important for your vision behind the wheel…especially in the fall and winter months.
- Leaves will be falling very soon, and rain is no stranger to the fall months. This means you’ll need strong wipers to clear the leaves and rain off your windshield.
- Right after the leaves comes the snow, and anyone who has driven in a snowstorm knows how important your winters are.
- If your wipers are leaving streaks of water on your windshield, it’s time to replace or clean them.
- Although drivers rarely change them, wipers break down pretty quickly. In fact, they should be changed every 6-12 months.
Interior:
- It’s time to say goodbye to the trash that’s taken up a vacancy in your car! After traveling all summer long, it’s only normal your interior needs a little pick me up.
- We suggest grabbing a garbage bag, your vacuum cleaner, and some multi-surface cleaner.
- First started by taking everything out, and we mean everything!
- Then, vacuum away crumbs, dust, and whatever else is in there. Don’t forget to clean off whatever item you’ll be putting back in your vehicle.
- Then it’s time to dust, spray down your dash, console, gear shift, radio system, and of course windows!
- Finally, put whatever you’re keeping back inside your cabin in a neat and orderly way, and toss whatever is remaining!

Loughead Nissan wants to help you get your Nissan shining bright after a long summer of travel! It’s no secret that after traveling all summer, your ride could use a little TLC, but where should you start? Great question! How about with your Nissan exterior! You want your Nissan to look it’s best right? And after a while, gunk and grime builds up and can actually cause damage to your exterior paint. So give your ride the TLC it deserves and take a peek at the steps below for detailing your exterior or schedule your service appointment and we will get your ride looking brand new today!
Step 1: Wash your car
- You’ll need a bucket, car wash solution, microfiber towel (or mitt), soft-bristled brush, and a water hose
- Washing a car on a regular basis helps keep it free of dirt, debris, and gritty residue that can accumulate over time
- tart washing your car from the roof of the vehicle and work your way down to the bottom of the vehicle
- Use a soft-bristled brush, in small, circular motions, to remove more stubborn stains and grease. Use a microfiber cloth to clean less dirty areas.
Step 2: Dry your vehicle
- Rinse your car as you go to prevent the soap and water from drying on your car. The ideal car-washing method is to soap up and wash an area, followed by a quick rinse, before moving on.
- After drying your car to remove the majority of the moisture, allow it to air dry completely before proceeding to the detailing phase
Part 3: Detail your car
- You’ll need a clay bar, compound, glaze, microfiber towels, and polish
- Use a microfiber towel or mitt when working with any detailing compound, glaze, or polish. On the surface of your vehicle, you can still find dirt, even after washing it! A microfiber towel should help it lift dirt away from the surface
- Don’t forget to clean and shine your tires, which are one of the most overlooked areas of a vehicle.
Part 4: Wax your vehicle:
- You’ll need a car buffer, car wax, polisher, microfiber towels. Paint conditioner
- Apply wax using a microfiber towel or a clean buffing pad using the car buffer.
- Proceed with applying the wax a section at a time, allowing the wax to set before removal.
- Take a microfiber cloth and use circular motions with the buffer to rub in the wax. Repeat this process until you have waxed the entire surface of the vehicle.
Happy September, y’all! Fall is just around the corner, and even though it might be hard to let go of summer, the reality is creeping in. This means right now is the perfect time to kickstart your fall service. I know, I know, you’re thinking I’m crazy for talking about fall/winter service already. However, maintenance becomes very busy during the fall months, and getting ahead of it could save you time! So, this week’s blog is for anyone who wants to get on top of their fall maintenance! We’ve got three important services that should be completed for your end of summer service. They’re DIY approved, but we’re happy to help with any assistance you need! Just schedule an appointment today!
Service To Complete…
Inspection:
- The place to start is with an inspection. This is the best way to narrow down the service/ maintenance your vehicle needs most.
- This will include important checks like battery check, fluids, belts, hoses, lights, and more
- These are important to catch now because as temperatures fall, components can worsen
Tire Tread
- Your tire tread is extremely important, especially during the upcoming winter months. If your tire tread is low or bald, you have no grip on slick and icy roads
- The proper tread depth should be at least 2/32”
- If you need a simple way to check your tire depth, utilize the penny test
- Penny Test How To: With Lincoln’s head facing downwards, place the penny into several grooves of a tire. If you can see the top of his head, your tread depth is worn too low and it’s time to replace your tires
- If you’re in heavy snow areas, you should invest in snow tires – which have proven to provide better traction than all-season tires.
- Keep an eye out for more than just tread depth. Look for intense light exposure, puncture holes, or anything thing else
Windshield Wiper Maintenance
- Often overlooked, but the real MVP of winter driving, windshield wipers are extremely important all year round, especially during the winter months
- When snow, sleet, hail, etc. are falling at you, you need a good pair of wipers to keep your visibility clear
- Examine your blades for breaks, tears, streaking, etc.
- If you’ve had your wipers for more than 6 months, it’s a good idea to replace them
- If you get a lot of snow, looking into purchase wipers specifically for snow/winter weather
