Hit The Road With These Fun Games | Swarthmore, PA
If you haven’t hit the road for a good old getaway yet, you better do so before summer escapes us for good! I know, I know, you’re probably screaming at me for even saying that, but with July almost gone summer will soon be behind us. So get your planners out because there is no better time than now to plan your big last hoorah of the summer season!
If you’ll be hitting the road with your little kiddos, then you might want to come prepared. We all know that kids tend to get bored easily and that means you’ll hear “Are we there yet?” every five minutes or just full-on breakdowns…yeah, let’s try and avoid that! So this week we want to help you out with some fun ways to keep everyone entertained on your road trip. Below you will see a handful of our favorite road trip games. We suggest planning them out depending on how long your ride is. The worst thing is if you play them all at once, you’ll find yourself without anything else to do. So to avoid that from happening we suggest spreading them out and bring along some other filler activities like coloring, movies, reading, electronics, etc.
Don’t forget to service your ride before you hit the road for your getaway! Head over to our site and schedule your service appointment NOW!
Road Trip Games:
- I Spy: This is a car ride classic! It will keep the kids guessing and entertain for a good amount of time, plus it so much for them to feel like they have fooled you so don’t guess correct too quickly!
- Road Trip Bingo: This fun game combines bingo with a scavenger hunt. Give each child a flat surface, like a clipboard or a notebook, and have them place it in their lap. each player gets a free printable bingo card and a ziplock bag with 16 pennies. When a player spies an item on his card, he covers the picture with a penny. Just like in regular bingo, the first player to cover all the squares in a straight line wins.
- License Plate Game: Make sure everyone has a piece of paper or come prepared and print out maps. Then write down or cross out each state you see, once someone has crossed out all 50 (or whoever has the most) they win!
- 20 Questions. This easy-peasy game is great for young kids, thanks to its straightforward rules. Player One thinks of a person, place or thing. Everyone else takes turns asking questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no. After each answer, the questioner gets one guess. Play continues until a player guesses correctly.
- I’m Going on a Picnic. This alphabet-based memory game is great for kids 5 and up. You don’t need a game board or any materials. The game can be played with as few as two players, but it’s more fun when the whole family joins in. The first player says “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing…” followed by something that begins with A, such as apples. The second player repeats what the first person said, but adds something that begins with B. And so on. If someone forgets an item, she is out. To be fair, feel free to be lenient and give hints to younger players. The last player to be able to recite all the items on the list wins.
Hitting the road for your summer vacation? Is your dog giving you the sad eye while you pack? Well, instead of feeling guilty for leaving your furry baby behind, bring them along for the ride! That’s right, bring your pup along for the ride doesn’t have to be as hard as you think, you just have to plan ahead! With that being said, you can’t just throw your dog in the vehicle and hit the road. You have to take the time to get your pet used to the vehicle, as well as planning out stops for bathroom breaks and getting the proper crates and carrying systems to help keep your pet safe in the vehicle. But if you still have sometime before you leave and you’d like to bring your dog along for the ride, check out our helpful tips below! We have laid out things you should pack and do’s and don’ts! If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call and we will be happy to answer them!
Make sure you and your passengers are as safe as your pupper and service your ride before you hit the road! It’s simple. Check out our service specials page, grab the coupon that works for you, and schedule an appointment today! Our certified team will have your vehicle in tip-top shape in no time!
Before you leave to make sure to pack;
Lead, Collar, Leash, and ID tag: The last thing you want to happen is your dog to get away in a place he doesn’t know, but be prepared for the worst. Make sure you have everything you’ll need to keep your dog from escaping, and everything you’ll need in case they do.
Food, water, bowls: Bring more than you think! The last thing you want to do on vacation is run to the grocery store to find dog food. Tell yourself the same thing you did when you overpacked clothes…YOU MIGHT NEED IT!
Blankets and baggies: Bring blankets for bedding, and warmth. Bring waste disposable bags for parking lot rest stops (You wouldn’t want to accidentally step in that, would you?).
Old washcloths: For those pups that get down in the dirt, don’t stress about your car seats, just bring washcloths to clean off messy paws
Crates and restraints: Some dogs love the car! They jump right in, stick their head out the window, and let their ears fly! But unfortunately, that’s not a good idea. Even if your dog is usually a happy traveler, it isn’t safe for them to roam freely throughout the car, in the case of an accident.
Never owned a crate before? Here are some tips!
- it should be large enough to permit the dog to stand up completely inside and turn around
- there shouldn’t be so much room that the dog can slide around inside in response to the car’s movements,
- well-ventilated, and structurally sound.
- securely fastened in place
The crate isn’t going to work for your dog? Try this out!
- A harness that is fastened to a seat safety belt
- It provides the dog some freedom but restrains the dog in an accident.
- Be sure to buy a harness that’s specifically designed to be used with safety belts.
Break time is important: You might down to take on a long drive little to no breaks but your dog isn’t. Plan on taking frequent stops like you would if you were traveling with a small child. Letting your dog out for potty breaks and to run around will burn off some pent-up energy, making you and your dogs ride my easier!
Check with the vet: If this is your dogs first trip you might want to talk to your vet and see if there is any medication that can help with motion sickness and anxiety.
This summer is heating up and with these hot summer days comes summer night storms. These storms can be pretty intense, and although they might be calm and relaxing to watch from your front porch, if you find yourself stuck on the road in one of them it could be very dangerous. Many of us have driven in a rainstorm before, but if the rain becomes too rough to drive in we want to remind you to pull over. You might be put behind schedule, but you and your passenger’s safety is the most important thing.
One of the scariest things that can happen when driving in a storm is hydroplaning. If you don’t know what hydroplaning is, hydroplaning is uncontrollable sliding on the wet surface of a road. There are a few things that can cause hydroplaning, but mostly it is all about speed. It’s no secret that it is a good idea to slow down when driving in the rain or on a wet surface. But in order to avoid hydroplaning all together, slowing down is crucial! In fact, many people believe your chances of hydroplaning are higher in a downpour, but the truth is the road is most slippery at the beginning of a storm! So whether it’s pouring or not, it’s a good idea to slow down! Want to know more about how to prevent hydroplaning? Check out our helpful list below! If you find that your vehicle has been damaged during a storm, schedule a service appointment with us and we can get your vehicle in tip-top shape today!
Tips For Avoiding Hydroplaning:
- Keep your tires properly inflated
- Rotate and replace tires when necessary
- Slow down when roads are wet: the faster you drive, the harder it is for your tires to scatter the water
- Stay away from puddles and standing water
- Avoid driving in outer lanes where water tends to accumulate
- Try to drive in the tire tracks left by the cars in front of you
- Turn off cruise control
- Drive in a lower gear
- Avoid hard braking
- Try not to make sharp or quick turns

Have you planned your family’s summer getaway yet? I’m sure you have, and now that summer is finally here I’m sure you’ll be hitting the road more often than before! Summer road trips can be fun, regardless of how far you go. But when you have little ones it can sometimes be difficult to actually enjoy the ride. It is no secret that little ones can become antsy very easily or bored which always leads to the infamous question “are we there yet?” To avoid this frustration, we have compiled some fun activities and ideas to help keep your kiddos entertained the whole time, keeping your ride smoothly and stress-free! We do suggest planning out when you’ll be doing each activity to make sure you don’t run out of activities too quickly, depending on how long your trip will be.
- Combat boredom by making your own “travel binder.” Fill it with coloring pages, word searches, bingo games, etc, that way the kids will be entertained with a handful of different activities.
- Another way to fight boredom is technology, whether it be a learning toy, an iPad to watch movies or play games, an iPod to listen to music or even an audible book!
- Bring lots of snacks! Kids get hungry when they get bored which can easily turn into them becoming hangry/cranky. That’s the last thing you want to deal with on a long trip, so pack a good mix of healthy snacks and a couple of their favorite treats for when they get really antsy!
- Another fun activity is having a countdown. Kids love countdowns of any kind, so turn it into a game! Give them a time limit and an activity, remind them of how much time they have left and watched them focus on finishing in time! This is perfect because it keeps them entertained, it lets them know how much longer till we are there, and it keeps your drive easy!
- For when all else fails to prepare a “Are we there yet bag? When you’re coming up on a near breakdown pull out the bag and tell them if they behave they get pick a prize out if it! This will easily buy you another half hour and keep your children excited and entertained with what they might get next
