How To Avoid That Dead Battery This Winter | Swarthmore, PA

If you’ve ever been stranded by a dead battery, you know it might be one of, if not the most annoying instances you might encounter as a vehicle owner. But we’re here to put that worry to rest with some tips and tricks this week! This week we are taking a deep dive into how to avoid a dead battery this upcoming winter season. I mean let’s be real, we all know what winter can bring here in Swarthmore, PA. So, check out these tips below, and be sure to schedule your next service appointment online today! Oh and don’t forget to grab a service coupon! What Caused My Dead Battery - Leaving headlights, interior lights, flashers, or the radio on when your vehicle isn’t running Using the air conditioner or heat when your vehicle isn’t running Low air temperatures, causing your battery to freeze Lack of battery maintenance Not starting your vehicle for long periods of time Failure of voltage regulator within the alternator How To Avoid A Dead Battery - The easiest way to put your mind to ease that you won’t be in this situation is to service your battery regularly to make sure there are no issues. This is exceptionally important when temperatures start to drop drastically or after driving long miles. A technician can test your battery to ensure that it’s still in a good, healthy condition. Be smart with your vehicle. Don’t use certain features like the radio, chargers, or lights for long periods of time without starting your vehicle. This puts a lot of stress on your battery and can end up killing your battery altogether. Avoid extreme temperatures if you can. We encourage you to park your vehicle in your garage (if you have one). This can cut back on exposure to extreme temperatures and won’t be the mortality of your battery. What To Do When Your Battery Dies - Of course, the first answer is to jump-start your vehicle. It’s always a great idea to keep a set of jumper cables inside your vehicle for emergencies whether that is you or another driver. Also, keep in mind that you should never try to jump-start a battery if it is cracked or visibly leaking acid. Roadside assistance is a beautiful thing and is almost necessary. If you do find yourself stranded and in need of help, be sure to call roadside assistance for help. This is especially helpful if you are on the highway and can’t flag down another driver. Plus, it’s safer to stay in your vehicle while a trained professional addresses the situation. Service Starts Here! Schedule Today: https://www.lougheadnissan.com/Service-Appointment-Scheduler.html

Time To Set Your Nissan’s PSI For Fall Temperatures! | Swarthmore, PA

Summer is almost gone and it’s starting to feel like fall more than ever before. If you’re an early riser, you know those warm morning walks are a thing of the past. And if you need to hit the road to get to the gym or work, the time to defrost your car is just around the corner. So what does this mean? It means right now is the time to check your tires PSI. Your PSI is something that is normally overlooked but is a huge game-changer when it comes to your safety, handling, and even your fuel economy. When temperatures drop, so does your tire’s pressure, which can lead to issues. And to help avoid any issues down the road, we’ve got all you need to know about getting your PSI right where it needs to be! So go ahead, take a peek below, and if you need help with your PSI or tire replacement, feel free to schedule your appointment with the team here at Loughead Nissan! Why it’s important to check your tire pressure… Your safety Longer lasting tires Improved handling and control Reduced risk of accidents and blowouts Better fuel economy Reduced carbon footprint Tips for Checking and Filling Your Tires When the temperature drops, we suggest checking your tire pressure. Outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees. What’s the right PSI level? The recommended PSI for your vehicle’s tires is determined by the vehicle’s manufacturer and the recommended tire size. You can find this information in your owner’s manual or on the placard inside of the door edge, glove box door, or fuel door. In most newer vehicles, your vehicle will alert you when your vehicle’s tires fall below the recommended PSI Do NOT use the max PSI that is printed on the tire sidewall. The pressure amount on the tire is normally the maximum allowed pressure. Over-inflation can lead to poor handling and comfort, overheating, and blowouts. How to properly inflate your tires. If you do not have an air pump at home, most gas stations have an air pump for you to use. Remove dust caps from the tires’ valve stems. Insert your tire gauge into the tire valve and leave it in for a few seconds When you remove it, the gauge will provide a PSI reading If the tire gauge’s recorded reading is higher than the manufacturer-recommended rating, press the gauge tip on the valve stem until you hear air leak out. Check the tire pressure again. If the reading is lower than recommended, you will need to fill the tire with air. When filling the tire, firmly press the air-hose into the valve, as you did with the tire gauge When you think you’ve added or let out enough air, check the pressure a few times with the gauge. Return the valve dust caps. Schedule Your Fall Service Appointment >> https://www.lougheadnissan.com/Service-Appointment-Scheduler.html

Undercarriage Cleaning Many car owners always keep the visible parts of their vehicle clean and sparkly. But what about the undercarriage of your vehicle? While your vehicle’s undercarriage is always just inches off the ground, it’s important to clean up and get rid of any road-borne impurities that come in contact with your undercarriage. Especially with slush and road salt quickly approaching in the upcoming winter months. It’s important to clean it well, clean it often. Exterior Protection This is a little easier but still a task that takes a bit of elbow grease to complete and complete right. Impurities that lie hidden in moisture can lead to slowly eating away at your paint job, no matter how good it is. It’s important to ensure your car is waxed periodically and put that protective barrier between your paint and the elements! Interior Cleaning Everything you tread on outside of your vehicle always makes its way inside your car at one point or another. While it may be difficult to get out of the vacuum and get into all the nooks and crannies, it’s extremely important to do so. Apart from the feeling that comes from being in a clean interior, you don’t want to find yourself with upholstery damage because you neglected to clean your ride. Get out that vacuum and make it sparkle. And a pro tip, add a new air freshener to freshen up the interior smell of your vehicle! Shop With Us Today! >> https://www.lougheadnissan.com/searchnew.aspx

Car Battery With the changes of seasons coming quickly, it’s a great time to stop in to see our team for diagnostic testing to ensure that your battery is healthy and ready to take on the winter temperatures. Plus, ask to have your cables and terminals checked for corrosion and properly tightened. Winter is known for killing batteries, stop in, and let’s have your battery properly maintenanced before the change of seasons! Headlights As our cars age, our headlights tend to become cloudy or even hazy, especially on vehicles that are continuously parked outside in the elements. While the days get shorter, we will be using our headlights much more these days which means it’s very important to ensure that your headlights are the brightest they could possibly be. Whether it’s headlight conditioning, replacement of the bulbs, or replacing your headlights altogether, our team can assist you with all of your needs. Tires Responsible driving all starts at the tires. Monthly tread inspections can help you stay on top of when it’s time to replace your tires. If you have noticed that your tires are less than ⅛-inch of tread, then it’s time to upgrade. While all-season tires might be a cheaper option upfront, choosing a set for both summer and winter, offers a more well-rounded performance. Stop in to see our team and let us help you choose the right tires for your vehicle! Wipers Did you know that it’s a great option to replace your wipers every six months? Typically, your wipers should be replaced twice a year to ensure top performance. Before the fall season, it’s a great option to upgrade those wipers and choose a pair that are specifically designed for winter weather as we are quickly heading that way. Also, if you’re looking to extend the lifespan of your wipers, we encourage you to clean them with a paper towel and glass cleaner each time you stop to get gas.

Five Things Everyone Should Know Before Test Driving A New Car | Swarthmore, PA

Is it time to slip behind the wheel of a new Nissan? This is a very exciting time and we couldn’t be happier to help you dive into your search, but before you do that it might be helpful to take a peek at some of our tips below. Below we have a couple of helpful tips you should keep in your back pocket if you’ll be searching for a new vehicle anytime soon! Before you schedule a test drive with a potential vehicle there is a lot you should think about. Be sure to browse our available inventory and schedule a test drive today, or stop by the dealership and a member of our team will assist you with all your Nissan needs! Bring proof of insurance and your license: This might seem obvious but you generally need proof of license and insurance before you’re allowed to take the vehicle out on the road. Making sure you have this information makes the process run smoother. Don’t be afraid to ask the dealer for their documentation of ownership and the vehicle papers. Ask for the records: If you’re considering a used vehicle, it’s important to know everything about the vehicle’s past life. That includes things as small as maintenance reports to bigger things like accident reports, and everything in between. The more you know, the less you’ll be surprised if something isn’t working properly. Do your research: You might love the way a vehicle looks, but you could hate it the second you get inside and see what it offers. To save yourself a trip, do some research about the vehicle, it’s trim levels, features that it offers, etc. Then when you’re test driving the vehicle you can test these features out, ask about them, or even notice if they aren’t working properly. Test Everything: Regardless if you buy used or new, there is always a possibility of features not working properly. A test drive is not just about driving the vehicle is about learning the features, deciding if it’s comfortable, making sure everything is working. Assure yourself that the vehicle is worth the investment. If you find issues, be sure to point them out and even ask about a price reduction. Test drive multiple vehicles: It’s not a bad idea to test drive more than one vehicle, it is a way for you to compare similar vehicles and see what other vehicles offer that yours might not. It also allows you to have options if your dream ride wasn’t what you expected. So, if you think you’re ready to slip behind the wheel of a brand new Nissan, browse our available inventory and schedule a test drive with us for whenever works best for you! Save Time/ Get Cash Fast Selling your car to a dealer is the fastest way to get paid. When you take your pre-owned car to a dealership, you can be in and out of the door within a few hours. However, when you sell privately, it could take weeks or even months. Dealerships love buying and adding pre-owned vehicles to their lots because, according to Cox Automotive 2018 Used Car Market Report, about 70% of annual vehicle sales are used cars. Convenience Selling your vehicle privately can be a hassle. It involves advertising the car, detailing it, arranging times for potential buyers to test-drive the car. You must also do all the bargaining, and there’s always the risk that the buyer will back out at any time. When you sell to a dealership you’ll drive into your dealership, make the sale, and go home—how much easier can it get? It’s Simple Paperwork is a headache - so leave it to the dealership! Dealers will handle all the paperwork for you and the DMV, so you won’t have to worry about anything other than the price and signing your name. With a third party or private buyer, you’ll have to deal with all title transfers and bill of sales. Save Money With Potential Tax Breaks In most cases*, when you sell your vehicle to the dealership and buy from them at the same time (trade-in), you’ll save money on the sales tax of your new car. For instance, if you trade in a car for $5,000 and purchase a new vehicle for $20,000, you may only have to pay taxes on $15,000. Tax credits may also be available for select new vehicles, including hybrids and electric cars. *See dealer for more details Sell Us Your Vehicle!

Plan Your Next Road Trip With These Tips! | Swarthmore, PA

With spring in full bloom, there really has never been a better time to slip behind the wheel of your Nissan and take on the open road with peace of mind. Whether your trip takes you sea-bound or city-bound, your Nissan will give a whole new meaning to a getaway. While your Nissan will handle the performance, it is your job to make sure that the trip is all planned out. Taking time to prepare for a trip is important for making sure you don’t hit any bumps in the road. So check out our helpful tips below and start planning your next getaway because summer is right around the corner and there is nothing like hitting the road, with the windows down, and confidence in your hands. Take some time to decide on a destination. Decide if you want to go far or stay closer to home, do you want to get the mountain tops or city streets? Once you’ve decided on where to go, decide if you’ll be able to make it back in one day and if so what time should you go, arrive, and head back home. If you have to stay the night be sure to start looking for a hotel or place to stay sooner rather than later (prices go up). Choose a route. Many people who take road trips like to take the scenic route to their destination. If this is you, check out your GPS and see the different ways you can go to get to your destination. However, if you’re only planning a day trip, it might be better to find the quickest way to get there because of the time restriction. Consider the right vehicle. Some vehicles are simply not made for long drives. Depending on the number of people taking the trip with you, the right car might be different. If you’re packing in the whole family it is no surprise that an SUV or crossover is the best way for you to go. You’ll need space to get everyone in and be comfortable. If you’re looking to save a buck on gas opt for a sedan that has great fuel economy! If you’re looking for a new ride before hitting the road, we have a wide variety of vehicles for you to choose from, whether it be an SUV, sedan, or even truck, we can match you with the best option for your needs! Get a tune-up. The best thing you can do before hitting the road, regardless of how far you’re traveling, is to get a tune-up. You want to make sure there is no chance of breaking down or mechanical issues. Make sure to get your fluid levels topped off, check for engine problems, and make sure all of your lights are working. Bring entertainment. Of course, the drive has to be focused on the road. However, passengers might want some entertainment to make the trip more bearable, especially if you’re taking a big trip. We suggest planning some car games for younger passengers and bring electric entertainment like phones, tablets, headphones, and even magazines, books, journals, etc. Looking to get an upgrade for your spring/summer travel! Right now is the perfect time to stop into Loughead Nissan to find the perfect Nissan for you! Whether you’re looking for a new Nissan sedan, SUV, truck, or even hatchback, we have an impressive lineup of new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles for you to shop! Just head over to our site to start your search, or stop into the dealership for a test drive today! Find Your Next Road Trip Ride Here!
