Did you know outside temperatures can cause tire pressure to vary by as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees? And if you choose to ignore your tire pressure you could run into some issues that can cause serious damage to your vehicle and put your safety in danger. Loughead Nissan’s Guide To Checking Your Tire’s PSI: If you do not have air at home, most gas stations have an air pump for you to use. Remove dust caps from the tires’ valve stems. Insert your tire gauge into the tire valve and leave it in for a few seconds When you remove it, the gauge will provide a PSI reading If the tire gauge’s recorded reading is higher than the manufacturer-recommended rating, press the gauge tip on the valve stem until you hear air leak out. Check the tire pressure again. If the reading is lower than recommended, you will need to fill the tire with air. When filling the tire, firmly press the air-hose into the valve, as you did with the tire gauge When you think you’ve added or let out enough air, check the pressure a few times with the gauge. Return the valve dust caps.

Checking Your Tire Depth: Evaluate the tread depth of your tires to make sure you have enough traction to grip the road An easy way to check you tire depth is with the Penny Test Just place a penny upside down in your tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, it may be time for new tires. Checking Your Tire Pressure: Use a tire pressure gauge to make sure your tires are properly inflated and then fill your tires with air as needed Your owners manual will have the proper PSI for your tires To check your pressure, remove the valve stem cap, press the gauge head evenly onto the valve stem, use firm pressure so that the hissing sound stops Remove the gauge and read the pressure adjust as needed Checking Your Tire’s Condition & Age: Look at the tread and sidewalls for any cuts, scrapes, punctures, bulges, bumps or cracks. This will keep your vehicle out of direct sunlight and you will benefit from the near-constant shade. Even a warm garage beats a vehicle parked where it’ll be baking in the sun. Keep your windows cracked. While it’s not a good idea to leave your windows all the way open, we recommend leaving your windows slightly cracked when you exit and temperatures are high. Even a crack will promote ventilation and can help keep your vehicle cool. Invest in a solar-powered fan. Paired with cracked windows, a solar-powered fan can make your car feel cooler even on the hottest of summer days. These fans work to remove hot air from your car by creating constant air circulation, these fans lower your car’s overall temperature. Place blankets/towels/covers over your seats. If your vehicle has either leather or vinyl seating, you know just how hot these materials can get when exposed to sunlight and/ or increased temperatures. In order to keep your seats cool. Try placing a blanket or towel over them when you exit your vehicle. When you return, remove the blanket or towel. This will keep you from burning your legs on the hot seats. Leave your doors open before getting in. Before hopping into your vehicle, consider leaving your doors open for a few moments to allow the hot air to exit the vehicle. This can help regulate the temperature before you enter and take off to your next adventure.
