Diagnose Your Vehicle’s Leaking Fluids With Loughead Nissan’s Color Guide | Swarthmore, PA

Last week, we taught you how to change the coolant in your ride! And while we’re sure you did a great job, there are a few things to look out for with your ride! This week we’ve put together a color guide so you know what to look out for to keep your ride running smoothly! Check out Loughead Nissan’s color guide to your vehicles leaking fluid so you can diagnose the issue with ease! And in the unfortunate event that the leak is something serious, conveniently schedule your service appointment at Loughead Nissan’s Service Center today! Loughead Nissan’s Color Guide To Fluid Leaks Clear: This is usually water from the air conditioning building up excess condensation and resulting in puddles of water underneath your vehicle. Unless this problem persists in great quantities, you’ve got nothing to worry about! Yellow, Green, or Pink: Due to their bright colors, these leaks are usually easy to spot. If your vehicle is an older model and there are only a few spots here and there it’s not something to worry about. But, if there are larger puddles of this fluid or your vehicle is newer, this coolant shouldn’t be dripping any excess liquids so it might be a good idea to bring it in to a professional. Orange: If there is orange/reddish-brown fluid leaking from the center of your vehicle, it could be transmission fluid. However, rust from your radiator mixing with an antifreeze leak can appear orange-ish as well, but can leak from multiple spots so placement is a key determining factor with this one. Red(ish): Power steering fluid appears red in color with a thin texture and will leak from under the front part of your car. If this is the case, there is an issue with the power steering pump and you should seek out a service professional. Light yellow to dark brown: Brake fluid starts out as a clear/yellow color and as it ages it becomes dark brown, similar to motor oil. Distinguish between the two by dipping your finger in it. If the fluid feels slippery, it’s likely brake fluid. If this is the case, your vehicle is not safe to drive and you’re going to want to have it towed it in for repair as soon as possible. LIght brown to black: If the fluid leaking from your vehicle is a brownish/black color with an iridescent hue, chances are its motor oil. This can leak from various spots of your vehicle and won’t stop your vehicle dead, but it means that there is an ongoing issue and you should bring your vehicle in for a professional examination

Tips For Detailing Your Nissan Exterior | Swarthmore, PA

Hello May! With summer right around the corner, we have officially entered road trip season and that means you need your vehicle to be in tip-top shape to get you from the morning hike to your afternoon at the beach and still make it to the concert later that night. But let’s face it, all that running around can do some wear and tear on your vehicle and when that happens it is important to get your vehicle detailed and clean sooner than later. If you skip out on giving your vehicle a good old scrubba dub dub, you could potentially cause damage to your vehicle’s exterior, which is bad because not only does it look bad but it also brings the value of your vehicle down. So, this week we want to help ensure your vehicle looks as good as it feels to drive, and if you're driving a Nissan that feels pretty great. Take a few minutes to learn some tips for cleaning your vehicle’s exterior and if you have any questions feel free to give us a call! If you’re not about the DIY maintenance, no problem, just schedule a service appointment with us and we can get your ride sparkling again in no time! Loughead Nissan's Tips For Detailing Your Exterior: Rule #1: Only use products meant for cleaning automobiles: Using cleaners like dish soap or laundry detergent can strip away your car's wax leaving the finish unprotected, unlike products meant for automobiles which actually loosens the grime and dirt while nourishing your finish. Rule #2: Wash your car in the shade: Always wash your car in the shade, if the water dries on the finish before you’ve had a chance to dry it, it could cause spotting. Washing in the shade is also important because a bead of water on the car's finish can act as a magnifying glass multiplying the heat of the sun and ruining the finish. The best way to start of the car washing is the give the car a good rinse down with the hose just to life and wash away dirt and grime. After that use bug and tar remover for the hard to get spots (give 2-3 minutes to soak.) Next, fill two buckets of water put the recommended amount of car soap into one bucket and leave the second with plain water. Starting from the top of the car down, gently use a microfiber glove to scrub down the car. Following each application of soapy water wash the glove in clean water before wiping down the car. Rule #3: Do not wash your tires with car soap: Wheels require a special cleaner to safely remove brake dust and road grime. And on top of that wheel protectant safeguards the wheel and helps reduce brake dust build up for future cleanings! Rule #4: Do a final rinse the dry right away: To help minimize the chance of water spots don’t spray the hose just let it run freely over the surface, which helps prevent water beading. Use your microfiber glove/cloth to wipe down the, it’s never a good idea to just let it air dry because of spotting and beading.

Tips For Drivers To Keep Motorcyclists Safe On The Roads | Swarthmore, PA

Spring is here and we’re all looking to spend more time out in the sun! That means the roads are going to be a bit busier, and not just with other cars! Motorcyclists will be out and about as well! As a driver, it's essential to take precautions to keep yourself and other road users safe, including motorcyclists. Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than cars, making them more vulnerable to accidents. Here is Loughead Nissan’s list of tips to keep motorcyclists safe on the roads: Check your mirrors frequently: Make it a habit to check your mirrors frequently, especially when changing lanes or turning. This can help you spot motorcycles that may be in your blind spots. Keep a safe distance: Motorcycles can stop much faster than cars, so keep a safe following distance of at least three to four seconds to avoid rear-ending them. Use your turn signals: Always use your turn signals when changing lanes or turning to alert other drivers, including motorcyclists, of your intentions. Avoid distractions: Distracted driving is dangerous for all road users, including motorcyclists. Avoid texting, eating, or anything else that takes your attention away from the road.

Make Sure You Allergy-Proof Your Nissan With This How To Guide! | Swarthmore PA

We all love spring right?! Fresh starts and blooming buds chase away the dreary winter! But, one thing about spring that may not be as much fun is the pollen that’s in the air. Irritating your eyes, nose, throat, and more, people who are sensitive to allergens may really have a hard time in the months ahead! Well, fear not! Loughead Nissan has put together a guide on how to allergy-proof your vehicle this Spring! Check that out below, and if you don’t have the time or tools to take on this job alone, schedule a service appointment at our Nissan Service Center and let our team get your ride sparkling clean! Loughead Nissan’s Guide For Allergy-Proofing Your Ride: Scrub It Down (Inside & Out) Starting by wiping down your dashboard, seating, and vents as often as possible with a damp microfiber cloth. This’ll help contain the pollen on the cloth instead of just spreading it around or reintroducing it to the air. Next, vacuum your carpeting and be sure to clean and let your floor mats dry completely in a covered space. Finally, be sure to stop by the car wash to hose down your car’s exterior so as to clear it of any pollen that may accumulate. Be Conscious Of What You Bring In Oftentimes your clothing and shoes are the way allergens get carried into your ride. While we can’t avoid this completely, removing the top layer of clothing you may have had on– like a jacket, scarf, or hat– could help keep allergens out of your ride. Try storing them in a separate area like a plastic bin in your trunk or a bag in the back seat. And while we know it’s tempting to roll them down to feel the spring breeze, be sure to keep your windows closed during peak pollen times to keep allergens out. Replace Your Filters And Floor Mats If you can’t remember the last time you changed your air filters, then now is the perfect time to get some new ones. All-weather floor mats are a great way to cut back on the number of allergens that make your carpeting their home. In fact it’d probably be a good idea to wrap all of the cloth surfaces in your car with washable covers as it makes it easier to clean them.

Find Out If Your Windshield Wipers Are Worn Out! | Swarthmore, PA

When you think about the safety features of your vehicle, you probably think airbags, emergency brakes, and blind spot monitoring technology. But what if we told you that you’re overlooking an important piece of equipment? Windshield wipers are often an underrated and forgotten part of your everyday drive! That’s why you need to make sure that your wipers are in tip-top shape and routinely check them for wear and tear. Do you know the warning signs that indicate your wipers are worn out? Do you know what factors to try and avoid to extend the longevity of your wipers? Take a look below, and if your vehicle is in need of some serious maintenance, schedule your service appointment with the Loughead Nissan team today! When you’re checking out your wiper blades, look for these indicators of wear: Broken frame: detachment of frame arms at joints or connection points. Metal Corrosion: especially at joints and claws. Visible cracks, tears, and missing pieces in the rubber squeegee’s edge. Flex rubber squeegee back and forth to see if it is still flexible. Aged squeegees will have difficulty conforming to the shape of your windshield and create streaks. Check squeegee wiping edge for rounded edges which can prevent the wiper blade from making strong contact with the windshield and reduces wipe quality. Tug to ensure the wiper blade has been securely installed on the wiper arm. Check that squeegee is secure in the wiper frame. Your wipers can break down due to several factors: Sun: Ultraviolet light and ozone deterioration Oil: Car waxes and exhaust hold rubber-deteriorating oil Airborne debris: Sand, mud and dust carried in the wind Moisture: Acid rain and salt water (in moist air both near the shore and inland)
